Amberen Ingredients
Vitamin E (As D-Alpha Tocopheryl Acetate) - 5.04 MG
Vitamin e consists of eight fat soluble compounds that combine to create a potent antioxidant which can reduce inflammation, prevent brittle bones, regulate the production of sex hormones like oestrogen and testosterone, and boost the immune system, especially in older women (1).
It is also linked to benefits that will support a woman's overall health while going through the menopause as well. This includes boosting your heart, liver, and skin health and metabolic rate, and preventing cognitive decline and various diseases.
Unfortunately, doses of around 15 mg of are needed to be of use, while even stronger doses may be required for women experiencing severe menopause symptoms. That means the 5.04 mg present in each dose of Amberen Perimenopause Relief is simply too weak to do you any good.
Vitamin B1 (From Thiamine Mononitrate) - 1.5 MG
Thiamine promotes cellular growth and the break down of amino acids, and it can be useful in menopause supplements as it combats menopausal brain fog, prevents confusion, forgetfulness, or an inability to concentrate, boosts your mental energy levels, and helps keep you alert.
As 1.5 mg of vitamin b1 is listed as the maximum safe daily dose, this is actually a rare instance where Amberen Perimenopause Relief uses an optimal dose of an effective ingredient (2).
Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin) - 1.8 MG
Riboflavin is useful in a supplement such as this, as it helps to stimulate oestrogen production, which dips during the menopause and is responsible for the symptoms you experience.
It will then also boost nutrient metabolism, digestion, cellular respiration, and energy production, the production of antibodies and blood cells, and the growth and repair of muscles, organs, and skin.
However, the maximum safe daily dose of riboflavin is 1.3 mg. This means the 1.8 mg in each serving of Amberen Perimenopause Relief is almost 50 percent too strong and could cause side effects (3).
Vitamin B6 (From Pyridoxine HCL) - 2.0 MG
Vitamin B6 contains 6 compounds that affect more than 140 coenzyme reactions in the human body. It can improve neurotransmitter production, keep the brain cells healthy and functional, promote REM sleep, give you energy, and boost your metabolism, hormonal balance, recovery time, and sleep quality.
Yet again though, the maximum safe daily dosage of pyridoxine is 1.7 mg. This means the 2 mg present in each serving of Amberen Perimenopause Relief is too strong and could cause side effects (4).
Vitamin B9 (From Folic Acid) - 333 MCG
Folic acid can reduce menopause symptoms like hot flashes and night sweats, aid the production of DNA, RNA, and testosterone, boost the metabolism of amino acids and nutrients, promote the growth and repair of bodily tissue, prevent anaemia and its symptoms, and improve sexual health and functions.
The issue again though, is that studies suggest you should only be taking does of up to 240 mcg per day. That means the 333 mcg in each serving of Amberen Perimenopause Relief is again too strong and liable to cause side effects (5).
Vitamin B12 (As Methylcobalamin) - 3 MCG
Vitamin b12 boosts brain, bone marrow, DNA, red blood cell, and nerve growth and functions, prevents fatigue, mood swings, weight gain, brain fog, mental decline, and depression, promotes better mental clarity, rest, and recovery, regulates your hormone levels, and boosts your metabolism and immunity.
With 3 mg being within the optimal dosage range, this is also another rare occasion where Amberen Perimenopause Relief actually uses an effective dose of a proven ingredient (6).
Amberen Perimenopause Proprietary Compound - 554.96 MG
Ammonium Succinate
Ammonium succinate is a salt of the enzyme succinic acid. It is sometimes used in supplements to combat menopausal symptoms, due to claims that it can treat hot flashes, irritability, and joint pains. The latter has also led to it being used in some arthritis supplements as well.
However, as there have been very few clinical trials conducted on it and very little information is available regarding either its benefits or potential adverse side effects, it is impossible to determine if its presence in the Amberen Perimenopause Relief formula will be of any use or not (7).
Disodium Fumarate
Disodium fumarate is an organic salt that consists of sodium ions and fumaric acid. It is primarily used in processed foods and some dietary supplements as it functions as an acidity regulator, which will improve the stability and life of the product (8).
Unfortunately, it has not been linked to menopause relief or in fact any benefits on human health at all, yet can cause eye, skin, liver, kidney, respiratory, and digestive issues. This is very worrying, given that it is the second most abundant ingredient in the Amberen Perimenopause Relief proprietary compound.
Calcium Disuccinate
Calcium disuccinate is a compound made of the mineral calcium and the succinic acid that we looked at earlier. Between the two, it could potentially combat menopausal symptoms like hot flashes, joint pains, irritability, poor bone, joint, and heart health, hormone levels, and sleep quality, and mineral deficiencies.
However, with the benefits of succinic acid for menopausal women having not been clinically proven and no information on how much calcium is present, it is impossible to know what, if any, effect the presence of this compound will have in Amberen Perimenopause Relief (9).
Monosodium L-Glutamate
Monosodium l-glutamate, better known as MSG, is a flavour enhancer primarily put in processed foods or supplements to both preserve them and make them taste better.
While Amberen claim that it is included to improve your metabolism and nervous system, the only benefits that clinical trials have ever even come close to proving are its potential as an appetite suppressant, and some even said that it could actually cause weight gain (10).
This not only means that it is highly unlikely to provide any menopause relief when taking Amberen, but it also means that two of the four most abundant ingredients in the proprietary blend are really nothing more than additives to stabilise it.
Glycine
Glycine is an amino acid that aids the production of growth hormone, and also boosts the health and functions of your brain and some of the glands within the vagina. It may also be capable of improving insulin sensitivity and blood sugar levels, two issues that menopausal women are known to suffer with.
The problem is, clinical studies have shown that at least 3 grams of glycine is required to produce any of these effects (11). As this is far more than Amberen Perimenopause Relief can possibly contain, its inclusion is guaranteed to be of no use at all.
Magnesium Disuccinate
Magnesium disuccinate is a compound made up of the mineral magnesium and succinic acid. As we have already seen, succinic acid is claimed to combat hot flashes, irritability, and joint pains, but has hardly been clinically tested and none of these claims have actually been proven.
Magnesium, on the other hand, is proven to improve physical and mental relaxation and calmness, boost your mood, sleep quality, and bone density, soothe the muscles, and prevent dehydration, hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, cramps, anxiety, fatigue, and sleep problems.
Unfortunately, with no information present on how much is present in Amberen Perimenopause Relief, it is impossible to know what effects it will have. That said, being buried at the bottom of a long list of ingredients makes it highly unlikely that a useful dose of magnesium is actually present (12).
Zinc Difumarate
Zinc difumarate is a compound that contains fumaric acid and the mineral zinc. While fumaric acid is not proven to boost your health, zinc can prevent inflammation, weakness, tiredness, anxiety, low libido and hormone imbalances, and boost eye health, night vision, and nerve and immune health and functions.
Yet again though, with it being buried at the bottom of a long list of ingredients and not having its dosage listed, it is impossible to know if a useful dose of zinc is present in Amberen Perimenopause Relief, but highly likely that it is not (13).
