Genius Greens Formula
Blueberry & Greens Blend - 8.56 Grams
Organic Spirulina Powder
Spirulina is a type blue green algae that is rich in antioxidants and various essential nutrients that our bodies need to perform at their best, such as fatty acids, protein, iron, minerals and vitamins.
It can boost your immune function, energy, metabolic rate and heart health, fight free radicals, reduce oxidative damage and stress, inflammation, brain fog, blood pressure and blood sugar levels and your appetite, and help you lose weight (1).
As 2,000 mg of spirulina is required each day to produce these effects, it is possible that Genius Greens contains enough spirulina powder to be useful. However, as the Genius brand have hidden it in a proprietary blend and the exact dose is not listed, it is impossible to know for sure one way or the other.
Organic Blueberry
Blueberries are known to have one of the highest concentrations of anthocyanin antioxidants of any fruit currently known, while also containing many other kinds of essential nutrients, such as vitamin c.
They have the ability to boost brain function, improve your liver and heart health, and prevent liver fat build up, mental decline, and inflammation.
The problem is, to provide any of these benefits, you need to consume at least 5.5 grams of blueberry powder or blueberries per day (2).
While the use of a proprietary blend prevents us from knowing exactly how much is present in Genius Greens, the weight of the blend and the position of blueberries in it means there simply cannot possibly be enough blueberry powder present to do you any good.
Organic Kale
Kale is one of the most widely eaten leafy green veggies on Earth, and it is high in phytochemicals and essential vitamins and minerals that are vital for the human body and can offer a range of benefits. The most notable of these is the ability to reduce your cholesterol levels and risk of heart disease (3).
Unfortunately, you need to consume a minimum of 5 grams of kale per day to enjoy any of these health benefits. While we do not know exactly how much kale powder is present in Genius Greens, the weight of the blend and kale's position in it mean we can clearly see that an insufficient dosage has been used.
Not only that, but there is also no conclusive proof that powdered kale replicates the benefits of the fresh vegetable in the first place.
Organic Spinach
Spinach is the single most popular leafy green vegetable on the planet, as it is rich in essential nutrients, vitamins, and minerals, particularly iron.
It can improve your eye, heart, immune system and gut health and functions, and reduce anxiety, stress, high blood pressure, oxidative stress and damage, inflammation, and the risk of heart disease and certain other illnesses and viral infections (4).
The issue is, at least 1 gram of spinach must be consumed each and every day for it to be able to do any of this. While it is possible that Genius Greens contains a dosage in this range, the proprietary blend makes it impossible for us to know for sure, while the position of spinach in it makes it unlikely.
Organic Broccoli Sprout
Broccoli sprouts are a common ingredient in greens powder supplements, as they are well known to be rich in vitamin e and other minerals and vitamins. The belief is that this will enable them to boost your nutrient intake, reduce your cholesterol levels, and benefit your body in a variety of other ways.
This includes preventing or treating hormonal imbalances, bone loss, arthritis and diseases, improving brain, heart, immune system and gut health and functions, bone density and formation, physical and sexual performance, muscle growth, and your overall health, and combatting cold and flu symptoms.
However, the benefits linked to broccoli sprouts have only ever been proven in people eating the fresh vegetable, rather than those taking its supplement form (5). As a result, it is highly unlikely that the presence of broccoli sprouts in Genius Greens will do anything but add to the green color.
Organic Lion's Mane Mushroom Mycelial Biomass On Oats - 1 Gram
The lion's mane mushrooms are a tooth fungus found in Asia, Europe and North America that is among the most widely used and beneficial species known. A very popular ingredient in cooking, due to their unique meaty taste and texture, they are often used as a substitute for meat in vegetarian dishes.
Lion's mane mushrooms are also widely used as a natural health remedy, due to the long list range of health benefits that are linked to them, particularly their fruit body, most of which relate to your immune or cognitive function and health (6).
They can boost your concentration, focus, memory, cognitive function and performance and immune system, prevent or reduce inflammation, brain fog and mental decline, and improve blood flow to the brain, brain cell growth, and nerve growth factor.
With 1,000 mg of lion's mane mushroom extract being what you will find in a top nootropic supplement, the lion's mane content of Genius Greens is actually visibly capable of offering most of the benefits that the compound is capable of producing, which is a rarity for the Genius Greens supplement.
Other Ingredients
The "other ingredients" listed in Genius Greens are lemon juice powder, organic rice hulls, organic citric acid, organic stevia leaf extract, organic flavors, silica, and organic sunflower lecithin.
While things like sunflower lecithin lemon juice powder can benefit the human body in different ways, being listed in this section means they will be present in Genius Greens in such small doses that they will not do anything besides make the supplement taste better or mix easier.
Everything else in this section is then exclusively used to make the Genius Greens product mix or taste better as well, although it is possible that some of them could cause side effects in some people too.
