Genius Mushrooms were great, but there's better options now.

Genius Mushrooms is a natural nootropic brain supplement designed to enhance mental clarity, immune function, ATP production, and energy levels naturally. They even say that it can help to support memory and promote improved mood and increased oxygen utilization, aerobic capacity, and athletic endurance.

The Genius Brand claim it does all of this while using a single formula of three organic mushrooms that also calms the spirit and helps you stay healthy. Unfortunately, after doing a closer review of the Genius Mushroom supplement, it is clear it will not produce all the brain boosting benefits that they say it can.

The single formula that Genius Mushrooms uses consists of three organic mushrooms, which are the cordyceps sinensis mushroom, lion's mane mushroom, and reishi mushroom. Beyond the primary three mushrooms it then also features a hypromellose capsule and vitamin c in the from of ascorbyl palmitate.

When it comes to the three organic mushrooms that the Genius Mushroom dietary supplement actually contains, it looks like it could potentially act as an effective natural nootropic supplement. The problem is this belief starts to fall apart when you look a little closer.

Lions mane mushrooms are indeed present in a sufficient dose and proven to enhance mental clarity, immune function, and mental energy levels naturally. However, the other two ingredients are both used in dosages that are far too low and need much more research to prove just how effective they can be.

Admittedly, Genius Mushrooms is a reasonably priced supplement and it contains no artificial flavors, but the way that two thirds of its ingredients have been used mean that it just simply will not be capable of producing the kind of results that they normally could do. It may also contain some allergens too.

That is why we highly recommend that people who are seeking a cognitive performance or immune system booster avoid purchasing Genius Mushrooms and instead stick to using a supplement that uses high enough density ingredients actually capable of providing optimal results, such as Nootrum, they use a higher yield extract meaning it's about 10X more concentrated than the ones here. They're cheaper too.

Genius Mushrooms Customer Reviews

Customer reviews of Genius Mushrooms seem quite good on first look, as the brain supplement currently holds an average rating score of 4.3 out of 5 stars with past users on Amazon.

The positive reviews of Genius Mushrooms almost all talk about it being able to offer a small degree of anxiety and stress relief or mildly boosting your memory, mental clarity, and natural energy levels, without causing the sort of crashes that are linked to stimulants like caffeine.

Unfortunately, the negative reviews of Genius Mushrooms paint the brain supplement in a very different light, which makes it look considerably less effective and some may even say risky to use.

Complaints like people seeing no benefits at all or struggling to take the large capsules or servings of Genius Mushrooms are all issues that could each deter a potential user on their own.

However, easily the biggest issue with Genius Mushrooms is the extensive range of side effects that have been linked to it.

This includes intestinal cramps, irregular bowel movements, lethargy, poor athletic endurance, nausea, depression, dysphoria, pain in the extremities, dizziness, irritability, panic attacks, joint pain, impaired liver health, stomach pain, brittle fingernails, and insomnia.

Given that Genius Mushrooms will realistically only offer the same benefits you'd get from taking a small dose of lion's mane mushrooms, while it is not guaranteed to work at all and could cause side effects, it is just not worth risking your health or money on over a proven brain supplement like Nootrum Powder.

There are also a host of negative Genius Mushroom reviews on reddit and other third party sites like Trust Pilot with it appearing that Genius take more time to look after their negative reviews with some reviews openly stating they were refunded after bad reviews and thus changed their star rating.

Genius Mushrooms Ingredients

Organic Cordyceps Sinensis [Mycelium] - 500 MG

Cordyceps sinensis, better known as the cordyceps mushroom, is a type of parasitic fungus that is native to various parts of Asia and which has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for decades, due to the countless heath benefits that have been attributed to it.

Cordyceps sinensis is said to boost heart and brain health, cognitive function, immune function, testicle function, physical performance and brain cell growth, reduce inflammation, slow the signs of aging, and help treat conditions like arthritis, coughs, diabetes, diarrhoea, headaches, and even tumours.

Unfortunately, there are a couple of issues with the inclusion of cordyceps sinensis in the Genius Mushrooms supplement.

Not only is a little more evidence required to conclusively back up many of the claimed benefits of cordyceps sinensis, but even the people who support the use of cordyceps mushrooms say that the dosage present here is a little low to produce optimal results (1).

This means while cordyceps sinensis can potentially act as an effective means to cognitive enhancement, it is unlikely to produce great results when consumed in Genius Mushrooms.

Organic Reishi (Ganoderma Lucidum) [Mycelium & Fruiting Body - 500 MG

Reishi mushroom extract comes from a polypore fungus in the ganoderma family that is native to east Asia. Long used in various traditional Chinese medicines, they have recently started to be put in traditional remedies in Japan and Korea, as well as in dietary supplements in some western countries.

Reishi mushroom extract is highly touted for its claimed ability to be an immune system booster and an effective way to support brain health, while also being able to benefit the human body in a range of other ways as well. We wrote about that in more detail on the blog, but a lot of it's benefits come from a compound known as b-glucan.

The purported benefits of reishi mushroom extract include it being able to boost immune function and health, provide stress relief, improve mood, lower blood sugar levels, and either prevent conditions like metabolic syndrome and certain other chronic illnesses or combat the symptoms they can cause (2).

The problem is, while the early results look quite promising, clinical research has not yet produced any conclusive evidence to back up all of the claimed brain boosting benefits of reishi mushroom extract, especially when used in the dosage present here or when not combined with more other ingredients.

That means, despite the fact that reishi mushroom extract can offer immune system support and cognitive benefits, it is unlikely to do so in Genius Mushrooms.

Organic Lion's Mane (Hericium Erinaceus) [Mecelium & Fruiting Body] - 500 MG

The lion's mane mushroom is a tooth fungus found in Asia, Europe and North America that may be the most researched mycological species on Earth. An extremely popular cooking ingredient, due to their unique meaty taste and texture, they are often used as a meat substitute in vegetarian dishes.

Lion's mane mushrooms are also widely used as a natural health remedy, due to the extensive range of health benefits that are linked to them, most of which are relate to brain function or immune support (3).

They are proven to provide memory support, boost your concentration and focus, reduce inflammation, work as a cognitive function, cognitive performance and immune system booster, prevent brain fog and cognitive decline, and improve blood flow to the brain, brain cell growth, and nerve growth factor.

The dosage of lion's mane mushroom extract present in Genius Mushrooms is also in line with what is usually seen in a top nootropic brain supplement, which means it should be able to deliver most of these immune system and brain boosting benefits to a recent degree.

Other Ingredients in Genius Mushrooms

Hypromellose Veggie Capsule

Hypromellose is a synthetic polymer that is used solely to make the vegetable capsule that the Genius Mushrooms powder is housed in, and it will not effect healthy adults in any other way, positive or negative (4).

Ascorbyl Palmitate (Vitamin C)

Vitamin c is an essential, water soluble vitamin that is one of the core building blocks of collagen.

It can aid the production of neurotransmitters and brain tissue, repair damage, maintain cartilage and the joints, improve joint flexibility and mobility, boost bone, muscle, and tooth strength, enhance nutrient absorption, provide immune system support, and prevent you from developing illnesses.

However, you need to consume at least 2,000 mg of vitamin c per day to see any of these effects (5). As it is in the "other ingredients" section of Genius Mushrooms with no dosage listed, it is almost certain that not enough is present to be of any use, and it is only used to boost the quality of the supplement.

Genius Mushrooms Pros & Cons

  • Very reasonably priced

Cons

  • Made with equipment used to process milk, tree nuts, soy, wheat, egg, peanuts, fish, and shellfish, so could cause allergic reactions

  • Some of the ingredients are present in doses lower than what are required to produce optimal results

Genius Mushrooms Review Conclusion

The Genius Brand say the Genius Mushrooms brain supplement will increase oxygen utilization, ATP production, cognitive function, natural energy levels, metal clarity, and immune support. However, closer analysis reveals that Genius Mushrooms is far from capable of producing the results that they suggest.

From a small formula that includes only a few ingredients, many of which need more study or are used in low doses, to complaints from customers about side effects, it just is not to be trusted. That is why we strongly suggest that you do not buy Genius Mushrooms and pick something from our breakdown of the best mushroom supplements.

Nootrum however, contains the same mushrooms, in better dosages due to the extracts concentration. So, it will give you all the benefits that you wanted from Genius, but it's quite simply a better product. It can enhance mental clarity, provide immune system support, improve mood, gut health and energy levels naturally, prevent mild cognitive impairment and help you to stay healthy.
